Lois Dame Taylor

Lois Dame Taylor, a longtime resident of Rye, passed away peacefully at Webster at Rye, on Saturday March 16, 2024. She was 95 years old. Born in Exeter, NH on September 17, 1928, Lois was the daughter of the Late Charles O and Madeline (Chase) Smith. Raised and educated in Exeter, graduating from Robison Female Seminary in 1947. Lois is survived by her son Jeffrey Taylor (Sandy) of Newfield’s NH, she is also survived by her brother Oliver (Sandy) and his wife Norma (Teddie) Smith of Stratham NH, her sister in-law Regina (Jackie) Smith of Haverhill MA, many nieces and nephews, and her grand dog Lola In addition to her parents, Lois is predeceased by her husband William B.L. Taylor and her brother Robert C. Smith and she is also predeceased by her longtime companion and friend William Chick Lois was a 57 year member of the Exeter chapter DAR, a 60 year member of the Eastern Star Trinity Chapter, and a member of the Rye Historical Society. Lois was an avid gardener spending many hours in her vegetable gardens and in her greenhouse creating floral arrangements for Family and friends. Lois and her late husband Bill where the life of the party wherever they went. Having many gatherings (parties) in their barn in Rye and having an occasional visit from the local police during those gatherings. In the fall, friends and family would congregate at their house and would pick apples from their orchard to make cider. On occasion, during the month following you would hear a keg or two explode in the cellar. They would dress up in costume and crash their friends’ parties all in good fun. They traveled extensively with the Shriners. Lois was also known for her way of telling stories. She enjoyed antique auctions and her many antique shops. She proudly displayed her antiques throughout her home. A graveside memorial service will be held for Lois on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the Exeter Cemetery, 30 Linden Street, Exeter, NH 03833.
