Marc E. Grondahl

Rye - Marc Edward Grondahl – a kind soul and friend to all – passed away suddenly on June 12, 2026 in his home in Rye, New Hampshire at the age of 59. His loss has been met with heavy hearts and fond memories of a life well lived. Born July 5, 1966 in Norwich, Connecticut, as the middle child to Brenda and Eric Grondahl, Marc grew up in Moosup, Connecticut with his siblings Michael and Liisa. He also kept a close group of friends which remained tight no matter his stage in life. A graduate of Plainfield High School in 1984 and Bryant College in 1988, Marc’s heart always remained close to home no matter where he was, particularly every Thanksgiving attending the Plainfield High football game. Marc remained active throughout his life, playing football, basketball, and baseball at home in Connecticut. His true passion was golf; from learning to play with his father to traveling to the world’s best courses, Marc thrived from the tee to the green. He found his true happy place by taking golf trips to Puerto Rico to play rounds in the Caribbean air. His passion for the outdoors continued year-round on ATV and snowmobile trails where he always had the best equipment to get him back home safely. His care for others also shined through his business ventures. Whether it was as a trailblazing founder of Planet Fitness alongside his brother Michael, to creating a pristine operation with Bluebird Self Storage, Marc always put others first and made sure his sense of humor could be found at every level of his companies. Marc is predeceased by his loving parents, Brenda and Eric. He is survived by his tight knit and loving family, including his older brother Michael and his wife Lisa, and his younger sister Liisa and her husband Hal. He is also survived by his extended family of his Uncle Henry and Aunt Priscilla, Aunt Julia, cousins Sara and Abby, niece Rylee, and nephews Charles, Justin, Luke, Matthew, and Eric along with his girlfriend Katelyn and her son Landon. He also leaves behind his cat Tiffany, who stayed by his side for years after he took her in for the family. A celebration of life will be held on August 30th at Wentworth By the Sea at 588 Wentworth Road in New Castle, New Hampshire, from 2 to 6 PM.
