Paul Anthony Harrington

Hampton – Paul A. Harrington, 92, of Hampton, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at his home on Saturday, August 15, 2026. He was born on December 15, 1933, in Lowell, MA, the youngest son of the late John and Delia (Copley) Harrington. Raised in Lowell, he graduated from Lowell High School before continuing his education at Lowell Technological Institute where he earned a B.S. in Textile Chemistry. His chemistry background would come in handy in later years when he and his family opened the Eatery Restaurant. Paul was a man of peace, an artist, a gardener, and a lover of life. He made anyone he met feel loved, supported and valued with his kind eyes, quick wit and contagious smile. He was a man of few words, but his words carried wisdom and sage advice. His presence was meaningful and he leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and acceptance. He owned and operated the Eatery alongside his wife, Irene, and their 8 children for 18 years. Being self-employed and working with his family gave him great pleasure, doing what he loved. The Hampton community gained a warm and comfortable place in which to share homemade soups, breads, desserts and signature quiches. After retiring as a restaurateur, he continued working in a kitchen for another 10 years running the hot lunch program at Sacred Heart School. An avid golfer from an early age, Paul spent many hours on the golf course, first as a caddy, then as an accomplished player. He especially loved golfing with his sons on Sunday mornings, something he did until he reached his late 80's. Loved by his wife of 70 years, Irene, née Beaupré; children, Paula Purington (Tim), Kathleen Yob, Michael Harrington, Suzanne Bessemer (Eric), Martin Harrington, Kevin Harrington (Patty) Timothy Harrington (Donna) and Anne Marie Ganzenmuller (Bill). Cherished by his grand and great grandchildren. Admired by his many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his grandson, Matthew Paul Harrington; his son-in-law, Michael Yob; his siblings and spouses, Joseph (Helen), John (Alice), Martina (Bill) and Grace (George). A memorial service starting at 11:30am, Wednesday, August 26, 2026 will take place in the Tented Pavilion at Grill 28, Pease Golf Course, 200 Grafton Dr,, Portsmouth, NH, followed immediately by a gathering and light lunch in the tent, ending at 2:30pm.
