Paul F. Leary

Hampton, NH- Paul F. Leary, 87, of Hampton, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, June 13, 2015. Paul was born in Methuen, MA on March 15, 1928 the son of the late John J. and Sarah M. (Carberry) Leary. The family moved to Hampton and later Dover, where he graduated from Dover High School with the Class of 1946. He later returned to Hampton and built his home of the next 63 years. Paul was the owner of Leary Construction Co. and built many homes in the Hampton area. He served as a 1st Lieutenant in the New Hampshire National Guard. He was a member of the Hampton Marsh Reclamation Authority. He served on the Board of Directors of The Seabrook Bank and Hampton National Bank. He was the Chief Assessor for the City of Worcester, MA for 25 years, retiring in 2002. He was a member of the Massachusetts Association of Assessing Officers. In 1962 he built The Dunes Motor Inn in Rye Beach. Which he continued to own and operate to the present day. This was one of his fondest accomplishments. From a very early age Paul enjoyed automobiles, restoring antiques, listening to the engine run and most of all driving one from his collection. Paul always had a deep affinity for all animals. He and his children were the winners of several trophies for their horsemanship. He and Martha also enjoyed skiing. They got their children involved and later their grandchildren. It became a multi-generational family activity. He always lived life to the fullest and enjoyed it all. Paul is survived by his wife of 35 years Martha (O'Hare Vavra ) Leary; his son Peter K. Leary and his wife Cinthia; daughter Sandra A. Murtha and her husband John; step daughter Amy E. Greeley and her husband Michael; step son Erik E. Vavra; granddaughters, Leigha (Leary) Lawrence and her husband Ramsey, Whitney Leary, Katya Leary, Bianca Leary Acosta, Brittany R. Noyes and her husband Daniel, Kayley Vavra and Kelsea Vavra; grandsons, Ryan J. Leary and Anthony Menici; four great granddaughters and two great grandsons as well as many nieces and nephews. Paul was predeceased by his son Paul Patrick Leary, his daughter Sue Ann (Leary) Menici and his first wife Sally Ann Leary. Visiting hours will be held from 4-7 PM, Wednesday, June 17, 2015 in the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM, Thursday, June 18, 2015 at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, 289 Lafayette Rd., Hampton. Burial will follow in the Central Cemetery, Rye. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
