Peter T. Sheehan

Greenland-Peter Thomas Sheehan passed away after a sudden illness on July 3rd 2026, fifteen years to the day his beloved mother Rosemarie Sheehan Carroll went to heaven. Peter is preceded in death by his parents Rosemarie Sheehan Carroll, and Thomas F Sheehan, his stepfather Thomas F Carroll and his Aunt Katharine Tevlin Leary. Peter is survived by his son Peter T Sheehan Jr. and his siblings, Paula Sheehan Miller (the late Herb) of Swanzey NH, Catherine Sheehan Chaddock (the late Arty) of Roswell, GA, Marjorie Sheehan Hinton (Robert) of Las Cruces NM, Maura Sheehan of Portsmouth NH, Brother-in-law Timothy Constantine (Rollinsford NH) his brother Michael Sheehan of Avondale Arizona. In addition, Lisa Scagliotti Sheehan, his former wife and mother of their son, Peter Jr., Sister-in-law Julie Scagliotti (Nate Griffin) His nieces Kate Constantine, Amber Sheehan Davis and Veronica Griffin, nephews Jack Constanine and Hunter Griffin. His Godparents John Sheehan (Kerrville TX) and Judy Sheehan-Kahr (Dennis MA) first cousin Patricia Leary Shepard (Joel) and many Sheehan and Farrell cousins. In addition, Peter is survived by his stepsiblings, Pam Carroll House, Richard Carrroll, Peter Carroll and Mary Carroll Defreze. In addition his girlfriend Julie McDaniel and her son Cameron. There are not enough pages to list all of Peter’s many friends whom he made over his 69 years on this earth. Peter was born in Brockton Massachusetts on May 28th 1957 to Thomas Francis Sheehan and Rosemarie Tevlin. Peter was a happy baby and a very bright child quickly impressing his three older sisters with his wit and charm. He loved history and by second grade had memorized all the American Presidents and could recite them by full name and the years they served. After his family moved to Hampton NH Peter’s passion turned to sports. His father was a New York Giants fan, since the NE Patriots did not yet exist, and Peter would spend Sundays watching football with his father. Growing up on Ann’s Lane in Hampton Peter quickly made friends from the neighborhood forming a lifelong bond with friends and their families; including Lance Chevalier, Dana Russell, Danny and Marcia Kahl to name a few. By the time he turned ten Peter was obsessed with baseball. He would beg his Dad to play catch and coerce all the neighborhood kids to have daily wiffle ball games so that he could practice his batting and fielding.Being one of six children there wasn’t a lot of money for baseball bats or baseballs let alone gloves. Peter played little league and found his position, catcher. He would later tell us that it forever wrecked his knees but that he wouldn’t have changed anything. He started following the Boston Red Sox and just like with the American Presidents he memorized all the players and their stats from an early age and started on his journey of collecting baseball cards. In 1971 Peter entered Winnacunett High School and made friends quickly and was elected to vice-president of his class, life was good for this young freshman.Then in 1972 his father received a big job promotion which necessitated a move to Chattanooga Tennessee. Moving to a different region of the country was a big culture shock for all of the Sheehan family, but hit Peter, who was so happy in Hampton, particularly hard. He spent days in his room not coming out to talk to anyone. Then one day his neighbor was throwing a baseball to his young son and something sparked a memory of happiness and somehow Peter decided to give his new home a chance. He started his sophomore year at Notre Dame High School and immediately joined the baseball team. Even though Peter was the “new kid in town” he quickly made friends that stayed in his life way past high school. After graduating Notre Dame in 1975 Peter was accepted to the University of Tennessee in Knoxville where he worked at the University’s Aquatic Center and became a big supporter of Vols sports especially baseball and basketball. After finishing college Peter returned to NH. His parents had built a house in Stratham and his sister Maura and brother Michael were attending Exeter schools. Family was everything to Peter. Reconnecting with friends from his childhood Peter used his bold personality and people skills to land a job at The Ashworth by the Sea on Hampton Beach where he worked for several years for Joyce and Norm Grandmaision and their family. At the time Joe Hurley was the General Manager and he became a mentor in the restaurant business. They were lifelong friends. While listening to bands who played in the lounge his love of music and dancing elevated to a new level. His favorite genre at the time was disco and he became a standout on the dance floor at Bill Bailey’s while his pal “Deacon” Dan spun vinyl for he and his ever growing group of friends, many of whom will be featured on his memorial reel. Peter waited tables and bartended there and made lifelong friends. Back in that era The Galley Hatch in Hampton also had a movie theatre next door and John Tinios thought it would be a good idea to start a scholarship fund for students wanting to go into the culinary arts. Peter and John gathered a committee and The Restaurant Feud was born. Based on the hit TV show at the time, The Family Feud with Richard Dawson as the host, Peter was the host of this fun annual event. The evening would begin with Peter T. in a tuxedo disco dancing his way down the aisle to the stage where teams of local restaurants along with their staff competed in a lively game of questions related to their craft. The Galley Hatch also had a fun St. Patrick’s Day party in their upstairs venue called The Pelican Club. Peter was known to belt out Danny Boy to the cheers of an admiring crowd, mostly young women. Peter was a charmer. Peter met many friends in the early 1980’s including his good friend Bill Herlihy who owned an oceanfront home on Plaice Cove and they became roommates hosting amazing parties with all of their friends, many photos will be on the slideshow reel. In 1983 Peter met a friend for life when Parker Ryan opened The Widow Fletcher’s Tavern in Hampton. This became a popular spot for the locals and also formed a non-profit club called the Royal Society Bridge Club. This “secret society” held weekly meetings but their mission was to bring new ideas to the town like The Hampton Christmas Parade and eventually through Joe Hurley The Hampton Beach sandcastles. A lifelong Democrat, Peter was excited to meet Congressman Richard (Dick) Gephardt from Missouri in 1987. Peter’s mother was always active in politics and after speaking with the Presidential candidate, Peter, too, decided to get active in politics and went to work on his campaign. Peter started his sales career in Portsmouth working for Bellavance Distributors, Port City Beverage, NH Distributors, Bayside Distributors and then eventually back to NHD where his love of Anheuser Busch products and related brands catapulted him to much success. In his early career he was the “king of promos” being the MC with the giveaways for Super Bowl Sunday’s, St. Patrick’s Day and the Hampton Beach Seafood Festival. While selling Guinness for Bayside, Peter won top sales for the Irish Stout and was rewarded with two trips to Ireland. As an Irishman the trips brought such joy as he looked up his family tree while enjoying the gorgeous Emerald Isle golf courses. From convenience store and grocery store accounts to his favorite role — sales — to his beloved restaurant industry, Peter always thrived when he called on his customers face-to-face to take an order, fix a keg problem, or introduce a new product. After 35 years in the industry he retired from NH Distributors and his legacy lives on. Much more than his career Peter leaves behind a loving close family of 4 sisters and a brother, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. But the true legacy of Peter is his son. The ”lifelong bachelor” married Lisa Scagliotti on May 23, 2009 and their dream was to have a baby. After buying a home in Greenland Peter T Jr was born on December 14, 2013. Peter was the light of his life from day one. He would pull out photos on his phone and show his customers daily. Everyone was elated for the couple and the life they started together. Being a sports nut, Peter obviously encouraged Peter to find his passion for sports. Without telling him what sports to play, his son naturally was drawn to baseball and basketball. A natural athlete like his father, you could find Peter Jr on baseball fields in Portsmouth where his Dad was the announcer bringing smiles to the faces of players and parents alike. Peter Jr also plays basketball, (his Dad being a lifelong Celtics fan) and most recently started playing football. Peter left this earth surrounded by his siblings and his son and his son’s mother. A full circle of life, as he died on the same day his mother died, she was calling him to heaven where we know they are now dancing together. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, August 7, 2026 in the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home- Crematory. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. at Corpus Christi Parish in Portsmouth, New Hampshire on Saturday, August 8, 2026.
