Richard A. "Dick" Sherman

Moultonborough - Richard A. “Dick” Sherman, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at the age of 88, surrounded by his family. Dick was born in Boston, Massachusetts, on July 22, 1938, to Halben and Catherine (McNeil) Sherman and grew up in Everett and Danvers. He graduated from Danvers High School in 1956, represented his school at Boys State and served as class president his senior year. Education mattered deeply to Dick, as did the opportunities that hard work could create. As a teenager, he worked at a bowling alley, a local restaurant and as a small-engine mechanic, later repairing boat motors in Gloucester. He worked his way through Northeastern University, becoming the first in his family to earn a college degree, and later earned his MBA from Clark University while working full-time. Dick then built a successful career as a program manager and business consultant, including positions with AVCO, Textron and Dynatrend. Family was at the center of Dick’s life. He married his high school sweetheart, Priscilla DesChenes, and together they shared 66 years of marriage and raised five children in Holliston and Danvers. The Sherman household was a busy one filled with Sunday dinners, camping trips, vacations to Acadia National Park, summers in New Hampshire and plenty of miles with five children and a dog loaded into the station wagon. As their family grew, Dick especially loved birthdays, the holidays and other occasions that brought children, grandchildren and eventually great-grandchildren together. Around a crowded family table, he would often launch a round of “What’s your favorite?”—giving everyone, from the youngest to the oldest, a chance to be heard. He was happiest with his family around him, whether gathered together or captaining the boat on Lake Winnipesaukee. Dick was first introduced to Bald Peak Colony Club in New Hampshire through the Boys Club of Boston Caddie Program. As a teenager, he spent his summers there caddying and living in the caddie quarters. Decades later, Dick and Priscilla returned as members and eventually made Bald Peak their home—a full-circle journey that meant a great deal to him. Throughout his life, Dick looked for ways to give back to the communities where he lived. In Holliston and Danvers, he was a longtime Little League and Babe Ruth baseball coach. At Bald Peak, he chaired several committees and spent countless volunteer hours creating and maintaining a detailed Safety and Security Map of the club grounds. For more than 15 years, he also led the men’s LOFT golf group, which became a much-loved part of club life for those who participated. Dick was always welcoming and greeted everyone with a smile. He treasured the relationships he developed throughout his life and made time to stop and talk with people, whether they were longtime friends or someone he had just met. He was always ready to lend a hand. Many at Bald Peak will also remember Dick walking the grounds with his beloved dog and constant companion, Belle. Dick gave his family and friends his love, time and attention and gave his community more than he probably ever realized. He will be deeply missed by his family and the many friends who were fortunate enough to know him. Dick is survived by his wife, Priscilla; their five children and their spouses, Beth and Peter Jackson, Marianne and Rad Wiederhold, Rick and Sally Sherman, Kathleen and Jon Fliss, and John and Katy Sherman; his 12 grandchildren, Emily Farrell (John), Peggy Warning (Sam), Drew Jackson, Rick Wiederhold, Allison Wiederhold, William Sherman, Chip Sherman, Ned Sherman (Catherine), Palmer Fliss (Rachel Gunsalus), Ryan Fliss, Eveland Sherman and Natalie Sherman; and his five great-grandchildren, Graham, Addie and Ingrid Farrell and Josephine and Arthur Fliss. He is also survived by his brother, Charlie Sherman (Janice), and sister, Kathy Hoyt. He was preceded in death by his sister, Rhonda.
