Rita C. Lally

Hampton - Rita C. Lally was called home to heaven February 6, 2014, surrounded by her loving family. She was 94 years young. She was born on August 24, 1919 in Lowell, MA, a daughter of the late William and Mary (McCarthy) Ryan. Rita grew up in Lowell, was a graduate of Keith Hall and attended Regis College. She married Gerald Lally and they settled in Lowell to raise their children. Rita worked for Lady Grace Apparel of Lowell for many years. She was an active member of the Lowell Chamber of Commerce. She was a faithful communicant and lifetime member of the Sacred Heart Parish where she and her sister Nora volunteered many countless hours. As a past president of the Sacred Heart Band Boosters Club, one of her many contributions was organizing a trip to Ireland for the band to march on St. Patrick’s Day. One of her favorite times of the year was attending the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in New York City along with the Sacred Heart Band. After high school during World War II, Rita, along with her sister Imelda, entertained the troops with their talented singing. Her home was the center of many festive gatherings shared with her countless friends and family. She loved spending summers at Hampton Beach with her sisters and brothers at the family beach house. Rita was a very special lady, whose smile and genuine personality would light up any room and make the darkest days seem brighter. She will be sadly missed and is survived by her son, William Lally and daughter in law Sandy (Stickney) Lally, both of Hampton, and her daughter, Mary Gail Lally of North Hampton; her brother Francis Ryan of Brunswick, OH; her granddaughter Lisa Lally of Cambridge, MA and her grandson, Michael Lally of Brighton, MA; her devoted nieces, Grace Maxfield of Hampton and Paula Durkee of Nashua; her extended family and close friends, Nila and Forrest Stickney Jr., of Billerica, MA and Melissa Marston of Hampton and several nieces and nephews. Rita was predeceased by her husband, Gerald who died in 1982; her brothers, Edward, John, and Daniel Ryan; her sisters, Nora Murphy, Alice Lowney, Imelda Ryan and Gail Ryan. Visiting hours will be from 4 to 7 on Monday, February 10, 2014 in the Remick and Gendron Funeral Home - Crematory, 811 Lafayette Rd., Hampton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10 AM at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, 289 Lafayette Rd., Hampton. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Burial will be private.
