Theresa A. Devine

Hampton - Theresa A. (Terry) Devine, 94, of Hampton, NH passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family. Terry was born in Lawrence, MA to the late Anthony & Florence (Quatrale) Sammataro. She attended Lawrence Public Schools graduating in 1948 from Lawrence High School. Upon graduation, Terry began working at the Beach Soap Company on Maple Street in Lawrence as secretary to the president. Soon after, Terry met the love of her life, John B. Devine, at a dance at the Commodore in Lowell, MA. Excited to begin their new lives together, the two were married on June 22, 1952, at Holy Rosary Church in Lawrence. When Terry and John started a family, they moved to Methuen, MA to raise their 5 children. In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, Terry was an integral member of the family business, Devine’s Pharmacy, employing her bookkeeping and accounting skills as well as acting as buyer for the store’s gift department. When the pharmacy was sold in 1983, she and John retired to Salisbury Beach and wintered in Boca Raton, Florida. Terry loved fashion and shopping, playing cards, going to the casino, the beach and golfing. Her weekly Ladies Golf League at Abenaqui Country Club was always followed by an afternoon of card playing with her golf friends. Undoubtedly though, Terry’s favorite role was that of grandmother. She treasured her time with her grandchildren at Salisbury Beach and loved being their Nana or Grammie. Christmas Eve was a favorite holiday for Terry as she traditionally hosted an open house for family and friends with an abundance of Italian food, activities and gifts for the kids and the singing of Christmas carols. Terry was preceded in death by her husband John of 60 years and her sister Anna Marie Sammataro. She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her children Doreen Keller and her husband, Michael of Kittery ME, John B. Devine Jr of Atkinson NH, Cathy Byrnes and her husband, Michael of Methuen MA, Christine Caron and her husband, Richard of Salisbury MA, Carole Devine of Portsmouth RI, her five granddaughters, Rachel Noiseux Dyke and her husband, Andrew of So. Boston MA, Kristen Lowe and her husband, John of York ME, Kaitlyn McClellan and her husband, Michael of Methuen MA, Kimberly McDevitt and her husband, John of Cape Elizabeth ME and Sarah Breakell and her wife Michaela of Goshen CT and 12 great grandchildren, Christopher, Harry, Emma, Lucy, Brynley, Briella, Eleanor, Jack, Casey, Thomas, James and Isabella. The family is especially grateful to the compassionate caregivers who spent time with Terry as well as the Tufts Hospice Team. Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, February 7 at 11:00am at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, 289 Lafayette Road, Hampton, NH followed by a Celebration of Terry’s Life at Abenaqui Country Club, 731 Central Road, Rye Beach NH. In lieu of flowers donations in Theresa’s memory may be made to the Salisbury Council on Aging 43 Lafayette Road, Salisbury, MA 01950 or Tufts Medicine Care at Home 847 Rogers Street, Suite 201, Lowell, MA 01852.
