Virginia McCann

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Mother, Virginia Blouin McCann, the beloved matriarch of the McCann family. For nearly 25 years following the passing of her loving husband, The Honorable William E. McCann, Ph.D, on February 14, 2002, Virginia carried on bravely and watched over her family with unwavering dignity, strength, and grace. On September 6, 2026, 57 years to the day that Virginia and Bill were married, she passed away, returning to the man she loved and with whom she had shared her life and raised her children. Virginia was born on July 22, 1939, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, to the late Charles P. and Dorothy Blouin (nee Swift). She was the oldest of their four children, alongside Charles P. Blouin, Jr., the late Donald R. Blouin, and Roger B. Blouin. She grew up in Belmont, Massachusetts, before moving to Waban, Massachusetts, spending summers in her cherished Rye Beach, New Hampshire. Virginia attended Rosemary Academy in Watertown, Massachusetts, then Newton College of the Sacred Heart in Newton, Massachusetts. After college, she attended the renowned Katharine Gibbs School for secretarial training—though it quickly became clear that a conventional career was not for her. Instead, she packed her bags and boarded the ocean liner SS United States to live in Paris with her best friend for a year. She loved traveling overseas so much that a couple of years later she boarded ocean liner SS Leonardo da Vinci with her brother Donald and her closest friends from Rye Beach to live in Florence, Italy for a year. They traveled all over Europe and the Middle East. They returned home in October of 1965 on the maiden voyage of ocean liner SS Rafaello. Upon returning home, Virginia met her future husband, Bill McCann. They were married at St. Theresa Church on September 6,1969 in Rye Beach, followed by a reception held at her longtime family summer home, where she treasured her summers and, ultimately, spent her final days. Virginia and Bill lived in Short Hills, New Jersey where they raised their family and lived for 30 years. Virginia was deeply involved in her community, serving on the auxiliary boards of St. Rose of Lima Church, Oak Knoll School of the Holy Child in Summit, and Delbarton School in Mendham. A devout Catholic, whose faith was an important part of her life, Virginia was honored as a Dame of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta and received the Medal of St. Patrick from St. Patrick’s College of Maynooth in Ireland. Virginia was also a shrewd and accomplished businesswoman. Virginia founded and ran The Silver Spindle in New Jersey and was a longtime board member of Blouin, Inc. and Blouin Properties. She later served as Chairwoman of the Board of Blouin Realty. With all of Virginia's accomplishments, nothing was more important to her than her family. Virginia loved her two children, her daughter-in-law and two granddaughters beyond measure. She was devoted to each of them and would do absolutely anything for any one of them at any time. Her family was her greatest joy and her proudest accomplishment. She was their constant source of love, strength, guidance, and support, and there was never any question of how deeply she loved them. Virginia’s favorite thing in life was spending time with her family and friends. Fittingly, she passed away surrounded by the people she loved most. Virginia is survived by her daughter, E. Tiffany McCann of Rye Beach, New Hampshire; her son, W. Nevins McCann, and his wife, April, and their daughters, Katherine and Charlotte, of Summit, New Jersey. She is also survived by her brothers, Charles P. Blouin, Jr. and Roger B. Blouin; her sister-in-law, Nora Blouin; and numerous nieces and nephews, with whom she shared a special bond. She also leaves behind Peter, Jane, and Isabelle White, the family of her late-in-life companion, Harold White. She will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and endlessly loved. Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Virginia for a period of visitation on Thursday, September 17, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home, 811 Lafayette Rd., Hampton, NH 03842. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, September 18, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Theresa's Parish, 820 Central Rd., Rye Beach, 03871. Interment to follow at Central Cemetery, 20 Central Rd., Rye, NH 03870.
